What a fun time with youth from several different nationalities coming together to discuss and learn about issues related to character development and leadership!!
One day the youth made "memory" boxes out of whatever scraps of cardboard they could find. They designed boxes to store their favorite photos, stories, school papers, family tree history, etc. They were very creative, some even making their boxes into different shapes and then decorating them.
One highlight was having the youth
dress up in their traditional clothes.
A few really went all out and wore some amazing outfits!!
They also had "career" day where they dressed up in outfits that illustrated what they hoped to do in the future. We then had discussions about issues facing African youth and how they could go about solving them in the context of their "profession."
Celebration!!
Students at the Center of Hope gather for a "celebration" mealTwo of the students from Ethiopia and Eritrea treated everyone to a traditional coffee ceremony.
It was freshly roasted, ground, and brewed all right there.
In addition they popped popcorn on the open fire to go with the coffee.
